The success of your business depends on the quality of your operators. Well trained operators know how to move the maximum amount of material in the minimum amount of time. They also know how to run machines safely and correctly, avoiding unnecessary wear and tear.
“Training should always be seen as a life-long process,” explains Willie Haasbroek, head of Barloworld Equipment’s Operator Academy, which runs full-time courses for industry at its Isando facility in Gauteng, as well as on-site nationally for customers. (Barloworld Equipment is Caterpillar’s southern African dealer.)
Complementing these initiatives is Barloworld Equipment’s recent introduction of the Cat Operator e-Learning CD series, which provide valuable training aids for contractors wanting to up-skill their personnel. The CD’s, which are available via the Operator Academy, cover specific machine classes in one of three applicable industry categories, these being General Construction, Heavy Construction, and Quarrying / Mining.
The current machine classes covered are articulated trucks, backhoe Loaders, hydraulic excavators, off-highway trucks, track-type tractors, wheel loaders, and wheel tractor-scrapers.
As Haasbroek explains, the CD’s provide an excellent theoretical grounding on safety, maintenance, pre-operating and operating procedures: both for new and experienced operators, particularly for those moving to a new machine class. CD’s are available individually or as CD bundles and usage is unlimited.
“Understanding the specific role that each earthmoving machine performs on site lends itself to improved team work and productivity,” he adds, expanding on the extended benefits of the CD bundle option. Every CD contains interactive exercises, quizzes, and a final test.
