rham equipment

Rham equipment is a (pty) limited company, formed in 1980 to produce specialised roof bolting equipment for the underground coal mining industry in south africa, to date it has supplied over 1500 units to the industry. In 1998, rham equipment extended its range of equipment to cover the hard rock section of the market. Rham’s product range is supplied to coal, gold, platinum, chrome, diamond and all of the base metal mining industries.

Today, rham has extended its range for mining equipment to include lhd units, face drilling rigs, long hole Drilling rigs, and roof bolters. For the material handling section of the underground mining industry, rham equipment produces hydrostatic belt conveyor drives, material transporters that include scissor lifts, explosive carriers and material cars, built to customer specifications. These can be of fixed design or on a cassette principle design.

Rham equipments head office and modern factory is conveniently situated approximately 15 km north of johannesburg international airport in the province of gauteng south africa, and is in close proximity to all of themajor road highway system network.

Transporters / utility vehicles
Rham equipment have during the past10 years successfully introduced their diesel powered hydrostatically driven transporters into a number of mines. Currently there are thirty (30) operational units, with more on order. These units were designed primarily with ease of maintenance in mind, the units are devoid of troublesome propshafts, axles, torque converters and transmissions. A diesel engine drives a hydraulic pump supplying oil flow to 4 individual wheel motors. The frame is articulated and oscillates at the center section providing optimum in ground contact.

Load haul dumpers
Rham have designed and manufactured an improved range of lhd’s, from 1,0m³ to 10,0m³ bucket capacity, models 10,18,20,30,40 70 and 100hd. The lhd’s are totally enclosed underneath. Nothing needs to be accessed in that area. This is also a particular benefit, as oil leaks onto the footwall are minimized, having a very positive impact on the environmental aspect. We use poclain wheel motors as the final drive in our hydrostatic system. Poclain hydraulics are world leaders in hydraulic technology. Hese motors were tested @ the gerotek testing ground on a 50% decline, and the machine used came from full speed to a stop purely on hydrostatic braking. The advantage of this braking system is that no single part is exposed to wear, allowing for reduced maintenance and less cost. On the conventional braking systems the life is limited and is measured in hours. The running cost of a hydrostatic system should be less expensive than a conventional transmission (viz prop shafts, axles, side shafts, torque converters, transmissions and planetary gears).

Our machines require engine and hydraulic oil only. A conventional machine will have hydraulic oil, transmission oil, engineoil and axle oil.. With a hydrostatic system it is possible to change direction while at full speed, without causing damage. All pivoting points, and even static areas, are fitted with hardened steel bushes. (at no time will the machine frame need welding and line boring. To avoid welding and line boring in other areas, our steering and oscillation sections are bolted to the front and rear frames.

Face drills
The rham fd32 diesel electric hard rock percussion face drill has been commissioned and is operating in the coal and hard rock mines. The unit can cover a panel of 8 metres from 1position, and drills at a rate of 4,2m / min depending on the rock type.

Additional features:
Our rollover facility allows the jib to rotate around the boom without any hose restriction due to the use of our innovative and well proven rotary distributor.  The same poclain wheel motors that are used in our 20hd are used in the face drill.  A double boom face drill model fd42db can also be made available when required.

Hydrostatic conveyor drives
Hydrostatic conveyor drives offer the ultimate in soft starts and speed control for conveyor belts. Systems can be designed to suit client’s needs. There are varying capacities in operation, (55kw, 132kw, 160kw and 264kw).  Advantages: maintenance required on drive is limited to periodic oil filter replacement. Space utlization by positioning the power pack remotely from drive pulley.direct hydraulic motor to pulley shaft mounting with no foundation requirement. No gearboxes or fluid drives.

Rockhauler
In response to some client’s needs to mine lower seams (platinum), a remotecontrolled rock hauler has been developed & commissioned. The unit features an ejector blade scoop type bucket and stands 1000mm high.

Xlp equipment
Always innovative, rham have designed & developed a fleet of equipment to mechanize the stoping function in hard rock mines. The machines have been commissioned for a rustenburg platinum mine. All machines are radio remote controlled.

• rham will custom design equipment to meet any requirement as stipulated by our customers.
• rham will ensure that all equipment utilized, have a comprehensive spares and service backup.
• rham will provide a 24/7 spares and service package.
• rham is a “proudly south african” company dedicated to provide value added, and reliable
Equipment comparable with international equipment in the local mining and associated industries.
