Terex tower cranes lift industry spirits

The largest Terex tower crane to reach South African shores has been leased by Civcon Civil Engineering Contractors for use on the Chemwest Project at Stilfontein in the North West province.

The crane will be used in the construction of a uranium thicker plant which will require a massive amount of concrete to be cast in an extremely concentrated lay-out.

According to Hans Vogelsang, sales manager of capital equipment supplier Terex Africa’s Tower Crane Division, the CTT 141 flat top tower crane represents outstanding value for money and has the features and back-up to match.

“The CTT 141 is a quality product which is quickly erected and easy to operate,” he says, adding that every tower crane sold or leased by Terex Africa is supported by a dedicated service team which is on permanent standby.

In the current global financial climate in which it may be difficult to obtain credit for the purchase of capital equipment, Terex Tower Cranes are available for rental.

“We have several cranes on lease which provides clients with an ideal opportunity to see for themselves the benefits they have to offer. Our experience is that many customers who lease cranes buy them at the end of the rental period.”

The crane is manufactured in Italy by Terex Comedil, and has an operating height of up to 67,2 metres and a jib length of 65 metres. It has a load capacity of 1,15 tonnes at its maximum radius and a maximum lifting capacity of six tonnes at a radius of 16,2 metres. The hoist winch is powered by a 22kW motor and, in keeping with all Terex tower cranes, is equipped with remote controls, enabling operation at ground level.

Despite their large dimensions, all parts are suitable for both road and containerised transport, and the absence of
tie-bars allows for faster and safer erection
